MicroBrasserie Charlevoix opened on 3 July 1998, when Frédérick Tremblay and Caroline Bandulet launched the Saint-Pub restaurant in the centre of Baie-Saint-Paul with four Belgian-inspired beers on tap; a bottle of Chimay had set the idea in motion. Bottling began in 1999, and Nicolas Marrant joined in 2001 after an apprenticeship at the Abbaye des Rocs in Belgium. The brewery now produces around 10,000 hectolitres a year at its plant on rue Paul-René Tremblay, and a second site with a restaurant on rue de l'Équerre has been announced.

Their signature has to hold across very different styles — which makes the notes that do recur more telling, not less.
