Alexander Keith's goes back to 1820, when the Scottish-born brewer Alexander Keith bought the Halifax business where he had worked as brewmaster. It later passed to the Oland family and with it to Labatt, today part of AB InBev. The nationally sold range covers a pale golden ale marketed as India Pale Ale, a light ale, a red amber ale, a white ale and a golden lager; the Oland Brewery in Halifax's North End lists the Keith's line among the beers it produces. The historic stone building on Lower Water Street reopened in 2016 as a small-batch brewhouse with tours and taproom-only beers.

Their signature has to hold across very different styles — which makes the notes that do recur more telling, not less.
Across 6 beers in 5 style families, 2 traits still carry through — a broad range makes a shared signature harder to hold.
Their beers place in the Top 49% of the catalogue on average, across 4 ranked beers. Consistent rather than spiky — no single standout carrying the rest.
