BentSpoke opened its brewpub in the Canberra suburb of Braddon on 6 June 2014, founded by brewer Richard Watkins and Tracy Margrain. Watkins had spent much of his career as head brewer at Canberra's Wig & Pen and has brewed professionally since 1994. Canning started in November 2016 and is handled at a second site called The Cannery in the northern suburb of Mitchell. Brand and beer names follow a cycling theme. A barrel programme built up over two decades now runs under its own Budding Cells label.
