Birra Peroni
Francesco Peroni opened a small brewery in Vigevano in 1846; his son Giovanni moved the business to Rome in 1864, and the city has been its base ever since. Plants in Bari and Padua followed, the Rome brewery moved to Tor Sapienza in 1971, and Nastro Azzurro was launched in 1963 as the premium lager. Over the decades the company absorbed regional houses such as Raffo of Taranto, Itala Pilsen of Padua and Wührer of Brescia. Owned by SABMiller from 2003 and by Asahi since 2016, it brews with Italian malt and maize.
