Akasha was founded in 2015 by Dave Padden in Five Dock, in Sydney's inner west. The first release, Freshwater Pale Ale, appeared that April while Padden was still renting capacity at other breweries; by October the brewery had a site of its own. The focus has stayed narrow ever since: hop-forward beers along US lines, with IPAs at the centre of the range. Akasha joined forces with Wayward in 2025, and both brands were acquired by the Powder Monkey Group the same year.

Across 8 beers in 3 style families, one trait still carries through — a broad range makes a shared signature harder to hold.
