Allagash Brewing Company
Founded in Portland, Maine in 1995 by Rob Tod — who remains the owner — Allagash built its identity entirely around Belgian-style ales at a time when the style had almost no American following. The flagship Allagash White, a witbier, is the most-awarded example of the style in the United States. In 2007, Allagash became the first American brewery to install a traditional koelschip for spontaneous fermentation, launching the Coolship line of lambic-inspired ales. The brewery was named GABF Brewery of the Year in 2021 and 2023; Rob Tod received the James Beard Award for outstanding drinks professional in 2019.
