James Squire is the beer brand of the Malt Shovel Brewery in Camperdown, an inner-city suburb of Sydney. The site opened in 1988 as Chuck Hahn's Hahn Brewery and was relaunched under its present name in 1998, taken from the tavern kept by James Squire, a First Fleet convict who became the colony's first commercial brewer and the first person to grow hops in Australia. The brewery belongs to Lion and through it to the Kirin group. Its packaged beer range was cut back to four brews during the 2023 brand relaunch.
