Kaapse Karel On Steroids

Tap to rate

Tropical fruit and floral tones meet layered hop bitterness and end in a long, creamy finish. This gluten-free Double IPA at 8.5% ABV is hopped with Centennial, Citra and Mosaic in Cryo form, plus Simcoe hop extract in the dry hop. First brewed in 2015, when a regular Karel was meant to be made and a double dose of hops ended up in the tank instead.

◐ Taste

The palate opens with immediate tropical fruit sweetness—pineapple, guava, and stone fruit—that builds into a robust, layered hop bitterness around mid-palate. The Centennial, Citra, and Mosaic hops create a lingering bitter backbone with citrus and slight pine notes, while the Simcoe dry hop adds resinous complexity. Underlying pale Malz provides subtle sweetness and body without intruding on the hop-forward character.
