Harvey's Brewery was founded by John Harvey in Lewes, East Sussex, around 1790, making it the oldest independent brewery in Sussex. The family first brewed in Bear Yard opposite the current site, before acquiring the Bridge Wharf site in 1838. The distinctive tower brewhouse visible from Cliffe Bridge dates from a rebuilding in 1880. Harvey's remains a privately owned family business, with members of the eighth generation currently working at the brewery. The company is renowned for its classic Sussex Best Bitter.
