Georgian Dragon

Tap to rate

A ruby ale at 4.7% brewed for April and named for Gideon Mantell, the Lewes doctor whose study of Iguanodon teeth found in a Sussex quarry opened the classification of prehistoric reptiles. Caramel, floral hop and fruitcake on the nose; the palate is full and rounded with currants, raisins, malt loaf and biscuity malt, held in check by dry hopping and a long, lingering bitterness.

◐ Taste

The palate enters full and rounded, with malt loaf and currant notes anchoring the mid-palate. Biscuity malt provides a structured backbone, while restrained dry hopping edges the sweetness into balance. A persistent, dry bitterness builds steadily and holds through the swallow without becoming harsh.

◑ Finish

The finish is long and lingering, with a measured bitterness that dries the palate gradually. No astringency or rough edges; instead, a clean, warming aftertaste that invites another sip.
