Fixation was founded in Melbourne in 2015 as a joint venture between the Stone & Wood group and Tom Delmont, a former Mountain Goat sales representative who had spent years chasing fresh West Coast IPA in the United States. The company set out to brew India Pale Ale and nothing else, beginning with kegs delivered by hand to a handful of pubs in Collingwood and Fitzroy. In September 2018 it opened the incubator, a brewery and tasting room at 414 Smith Street in Collingwood, where pilot batches are poured straight from the serving tanks. Since 2021 the company has belonged to Lion, which acquired its parent Fermentum.
