🌍 Australia · West Coast IPA · One of 56 West Coast IPAs in hopIQ

The founding beer of the house and for the first two years the only one it made. Hopped at every stage with Simcoe, Mosaic, Citra and Amarillo, it pours deep gold and opens on pine resin, grapefruit and orange peel, with mango and a faint melon note behind them. Pale, Munich and caramel malts lay down biscuit and light toffee underneath. The finish is dry and the resinous bitterness stands firm, holding on well after the fruit has gone.

Aroma

The nose opens immediately with resinous pine and grapefruit zest, followed by candied orange peel and a whisper of fresh mango. Behind the citrus lies a faint melon character, while the Malz backbone contributes subtle biscuit and light honey undertones that ground the hop-forward profile.

Taste

The palate enters with bright citrus and persistent pine, the resinous quality building through the mid-palate alongside notes of orange and mango. The Malz provides a clean biscuit and light toffee sweetness that balances the hop intensity without softening the overall dry character. Bitterness is firm and integrated, never harsh.

About West Coast IPA

Style guide · what to expect · how to find alternatives

What is a West Coast IPA?

IPAs are hop-forward ales with 5.5–7.5% ABV and IBU 40–70+. Bold hop aroma — citrus, tropical, resinous — with firm bitterness and a dry, clean finish.

Finding a similar West Coast IPA

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same piney, resinous, dry character as Fixation IPA will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
