Deschutes Brewery
Deschutes Brewery was founded in 1988 by Gary Fish as a small brewpub on Bond Street in downtown Bend, Oregon, named after the Deschutes River that runs through the region. Its first year saw 310 barrels produced, far exceeding expectations, despite early quality setbacks that required discarding ten consecutive batches due to a design flaw. The flagship beers Black Butte Porter and Mirror Pond Pale Ale helped establish Deschutes as a defining voice in Pacific Northwest craft brewing. In 1993 a large production brewery was added to meet growing demand, and by 2016 Deschutes ranked as the eighth-largest craft brewery in the United States. The company also operates a second pub in Portland's Pearl District, opened in 2008.
