Known for Australian Lager

Cascade brews at the foot of kunanyi / Mount Wellington in South Hobart, behind a gothic sandstone facade, using water that runs off the mountain. The company traces its beginnings to 1824, when Peter Degraves and Hugh Macintosh arrived in Tasmania and set up a sawmill on the site; the first beer was sold in December 1832. It is the oldest continuously operating brewery in Australia, malts a large share of its Tasmanian barley itself, and belongs to Carlton & United Breweries, today part of Asahi.
