Capital Brewing Co was founded in Canberra in 2016 by Laurence Kain and Tom Hertel, who had run craft beer bars in the city and found independent Australian beer hard to source. The first batches were brewed under contract in Sydney; in September 2017 the brewery opened its own production site and taproom in the Dairy Road precinct in Fyshwick. Head brewer Wade Hurley came from San Diego, which shows in a range built around West Coast IPA and a California Common. The company is independently owned, B Corp certified and opened a second venue, Lager House, in 2026.
