Hazy Organic IPA

Mill Street Brewery

🌍 Canada · New England IPA · One of 65 New England IPAs in hopIQ

The brewery's first certified organic IPA, brewed with organically grown American hops over a wheat-heavy grist that leaves it opaque. The aroma runs tropical and citric with a floral edge and a clear line of pine resin behind it. Mango and grapefruit sit over a soft, rounded body, but this is not a sweet hazy: the bitterness is firm and resinous, closer to a west coast IPA, and the finish dries out with pine and grapefruit pith.

Tasting Notes

AI-generated sensory profile for Hazy Organic IPA

Appearance

Pale straw yellow with pronounced haze from suspended yeast and wheat content; the opacity is characteristic and deliberate rather than a sign of youth. A thick, creamy head forms and clings to the glass with good retention. Fine carbonation supports the soft, pillowy presentation.

Aroma

The nose leads with bright tropical stone fruits—mango and papaya—layered over fresh citrus peel and white flowers. A distinct pine resin backbone runs through, grounding the sweeter top notes and lending herbal depth. The organic hop character speaks clearly without harshness.

Taste

Entry is soft and rounded, delivering mango and grapefruit across a wheat-forward body. Mid-palate brings a firm, resinous bitterness that leans toward West Coast intensity despite the hazy profile—grapefruit pith and pine needle dominate over sweetness. The 50 IBU sits well integrated, neither buried nor aggressive.

Style guide · what to expect · how to find alternatives

What is a New England IPA?

IPAs are hop-forward ales with 5.5–7.5% ABV and IBU 40–70+. Bold hop aroma — citrus, tropical, resinous — with firm bitterness and a dry, clean finish.

Finding a similar New England IPA

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same hazy, tropical, piney character as Hazy Organic IPA will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
