Coney

Tap to rate

Coney is Brew York's hazy session IPA, introduced in 2023 after what its makers describe as three years of development. Citra, Mosaic and Simcoe hops bring strong flavours of citrus, mango and stone fruit, carried by a soft, juicy mouthfeel. The name means rabbit and nods to Coney Street in the centre of York, first recorded around 1150. It is sold in cans and on keg and stocked by British supermarkets; at the national SIBA Independent Beer Awards 2024 it took silver.

Tasting Notes

AI-generated sensory profile for Coney

◎ Appearance

Coney presents a hazy pale golden appearance, true to its New England IPA character. The turbidity is intentional and inviting, created through dry-hopping and yeast suspension rather than settling. A fine, persistent white head builds readily and clings to the glass with good adhesion.

◐ Taste

The palate opens with a soft, juicy mouthfeel that carries prominent citrus and tropical fruit flavors across the mid-palate. Bitterness is restrained at 40 IBU, providing structure without dominating; the finish leans toward a gentle, fruit-forward drying. The low ABV supports a clean, refreshing drink-ability without any warming or alcohol detection.

Serve well-chilled. Session IPAs are at their best cold — the lower ABV means less warmth to balance the hops.

Tulip glass

The curved shape concentrates hop aromas and supports a thick head. Essential for aromatic ales and IPAs where the nose is half the experience.

Drink fresh. Session IPAs are brewed to be consumed young — the hops are at their best now.

About Session IPA

Style guide · what to expect · how to find alternatives

What is a Session IPA?

IPAs are hop-forward ales with 5.5–7.5% ABV and IBU 40–70+. Bold hop aroma — citrus, tropical, resinous — with firm bitterness and a dry, clean finish.

Finding a similar Session IPA

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same hazy, fruity, citrusy character as Coney will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
