Big Eagle

Tap to rate

Big Eagle is Brew York's West Coast IPA at 6.4%. It was among the first beers of the house in 2016, described then as a big American pale, and came back in 2020 after a three-year break with a heavier hop charge. The brewery speaks of West Coast flavour with piney bitterness and resinous notes; barley and wheat are the grains, and the recipe is vegan. Since its return Big Eagle has been a favourite of the brewers themselves and has been sold in cans, including through British supermarkets.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with assertive pine and resin, characteristic of classic West Coast hop work, layered with subtle citrus undertones. ◐ Taste

Entry is crisp and hoppy, with pine and resin flavours moving across the palate immediately. The Malz character—barley and wheat in balance—provides subtle sweetness and body, preventing the beer from becoming harsh. Bitterness builds steadily through the mid-palate and lingers into the finish, dry and assertive but not overwhelming at 60 IBU.

◑ Finish

The finish is dry and moderately long, with lingering pine and resin that gradually fade to a clean, slightly astringent aftertaste. No cloying sweetness or rough edges remain.
