Pure Project traces its roots to a brewing venture in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, planned by Mat Robar and Jesse Pine in 2013. When missing infrastructure made that plan unworkable, the founders moved the project to San Diego, brought in brewer Winslow Sawyer and opened a brewhouse with taproom in Miramar in January 2016. A larger brewery in Vista later became the company's headquarters. The range centres on murky IPAs, a dry pilsner and barrel-aged stouts, brewed where possible with organic and local ingredients.
