Maiden

Tap to rate

Maiden was the first beer ever brewed at Siren and returns every year as the anniversary release. The barley wine is aged in barrels from wine and spirit producers and then blended back with fresh beer, so each vintage is different. The 2025 blend draws on bourbon, Banyuls, rum, red wine, tequila and Sauternes wood plus about a third fresh beer. The brewery describes floral notes, red fruit, toffee and almonds, a biscuity body with a sweet-savoury tension and a hint of spiced carrot cake. It pours deep red towards mahogany at 12 per cent.

Mid-palate develops a compelling sweet-savoury tension, where toffee and spiced notes (hinting at carrot cake complexity) play against 50 IBU of balanced bitterness. The alcohol warmth is present but restrained, integrating smoothly rather than asserting dominance.
