Smog Rat

United Kingdom·New England Double IPA
Tap to rate

Smog Rat is a double New England IPA, cloudy and thick in appearance, brewed with extra pale malt and plenty of oats and wheat. Amarillo and Nelson Sauvin provide the hop character: the brewery names citrus fruit first, and the two varieties typically add orange, gooseberry and a white-wine-like grape note. The mouthfeel is soft and full, with noticeable sweetness and a warming strength, and the bitterness remains restrained. It joined the Rat line in September 2025.

◐ Taste

Entry is smooth and full-bodied, with the oats and wheat creating a plush mouthfeel that sits heavy on the palate. Citrus and stone-fruit flavors build through the mid-palate, joining the soft Malz foundation with a gentle sweetness that never becomes cloying. Bitterness is restrained and refined, arriving late and lingering without harshness, allowing the fruit and sweetness to dominate the flavor arc.
