King Rat

Tap to rate

King Rat is a hazy IPA on a grist of extra pale malt, wheat and oats, loaded with Citra, Galaxy and Topaz hops. The brewery describes its flavours as big and juicy: citrus and mango come from the first variety, passion fruit and peach from the second, with a further layer of tropical fruit behind them. Wheat and oats give a soft, full body and a slightly sweet, creamy texture, while the bitterness is kept low for the strength. It was one of the five beers that launched the Rat line in March 2025.

AI-generated sensory profile for King Rat

◎ Appearance

King Rat presents a pale golden hue with a distinctly hazy, opaque body characteristic of the style. The cloudiness stems from yeast and grain proteins, creating a soft, diffuse appearance. A thick, creamy head forms readily and clings to the glass with notable persistence, leaving fine lacework as the beer is consumed.

The nose leads with bright citrus and stone fruit notes—ripe mango and juicy grapefruit from the Citra hops, backed by passion fruit and peach aromatics from Galaxy. Topaz adds a layer of deeper tropical fruit complexity. Beneath the hop character, the wheat and oat grist contribute a subtle sweetness and creamy grain backdrop without dominating the bouquet.

◐ Taste

The palate enters with a full, creamy body—the wheat and oats deliver a rounded mouthfeel and gentle sweetness that frames the hop profile. Citrus, mango, and stone fruit flavors unfold across the mid-palate with juicy intensity. Bitterness remains restrained at 50 IBU, allowing the tropical fruit character to lead without harsh edges, while the soft grain base prevents any astringency.
