Brooklyn Brewery
Brooklyn Brewery was founded in 1988 by Steve Hindy, a former Associated Press correspondent in the Middle East, and the banker Tom Potter, who set out to bring brewing back to a borough that once counted dozens of breweries. The first Brooklyn Lager went to a bar in Williamsburg in the founding year. The brewery later opened its own Williamsburg brewhouse and tasting room under brewmaster Garrett Oliver. Kirin holds a minority stake, and Carlsberg owns the brand rights for Europe and parts of Asia. A larger home at 1 Wythe Avenue opens in 2026.
