Bellfield Brewery
Bellfield Brewery was set up in 2015 by friends from Portobello, Edinburgh, two of them coeliac, and brews only gluten-free beer. The company had been registered late in 2014, and the first two beers, a Czech-style pilsner and an American IPA, reached the market in 2016. Since 2019 a 2,000-litre brewhouse with taproom and beer garden has stood in Abbeyhill; the Nobles bar in Leith came later. The independent brewery, in which every employee holds a stake, works with low-gluten barley malt, maize and buckwheat. Its range runs from lagers through Scottish heavies to hop-forward IPAs.

How we measure this
Two thresholds are at work here:
- The signature list shows notes that recur in at least 6% of this brewery's beers. A low bar — enough to flag a pattern, not high enough to call it an exclusive trait.
- The peer comparison below shows only notes where this brewery's coverage differs from similar breweries by at least 20 percentage points. A higher bar — enough to call a real difference, not a nudge.
A note can appear on the signature list without appearing in the peer comparison: it recurs here, but similar breweries do the same thing.
Lucky Spence
Their beers place in the Top 62% of the catalogue on average, across 18 ranked beers. One clear standout well ahead of the rest.
