Traquair House Brewery sits in a wing of Traquair House near Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders. The domestic brewhouse dates from the early 18th century and still holds its copper kettle from 1738 and fermenters of Russian memel oak. Brewing stopped after 1800; in 1965 Peter Maxwell Stuart, 20th Laird, found the equipment intact and brewed again. His daughter Catherine has run the brewery since 1990. The family-owned brewery ferments its entire output in oak, around 1,000 hectolitres a year, much of it exported.
