Barney's Beer
Barney's Beer is an independent brewery at Summerhall, the Edinburgh arts venue housed in a former veterinary school. Andrew ‘Barney’ Barnett, a brewing and distilling graduate, went commercial in 2010 and set up at Summerhall in 2012, a site where brewing dates back to the early 1700s. The range runs from a malt-led IPA, a porter and a rye-based red ale to hazy pales, kettle sours and cask bitters; the Post Mortem line covers mixed-fermentation ales, barrel ageing and imperial stouts. The team also organises the Gravity Beer Festival on site.

How we measure this
Two thresholds are at work here:
- The signature list shows notes that recur in at least 6% of this brewery's beers. A low bar — enough to flag a pattern, not high enough to call it an exclusive trait.
- The peer comparison below shows only notes where this brewery's coverage differs from similar breweries by at least 20 percentage points. A higher bar — enough to call a real difference, not a nudge.
A note can appear on the signature list without appearing in the peer comparison: it recurs here, but similar breweries do the same thing.
