🌍 Germany · Hefeweizen · One of 197 Hefeweizens in hopIQ

The brewery has made wheat beer since the early 17th century and for nearly two hundred years held the ducal privilege to brew it. This cloudy Weissbier uses wheat malt, pale barley malt and Munich malt, yeast from the brewery's own propagation plant and Herkules and Perle hops for 14 IBU, at 12.2 °P. It is bronze with a fine, lasting head. Banana, apricot, clove and a trace of vanilla shape both nose and palate, with a lively carbonation over a soft, full body.

Aroma

The nose opens with pronounced clove and banana—hallmark esters of the Hofbräuhaus yeast strain. Ripe stone fruit, particularly apricot, weaves through, accompanied by a delicate vanilla note. The wheat malt contributes a soft, cereal foundation without dominating the aromatic profile.

Taste

The palate is soft and full-bodied, with clove and banana flavors echoing the nose in balanced measure. Peach notes emerge mid-sip, adding subtle sweetness. Low bitterness (14 IBU) keeps the profile clean and drinkable; the finish carries a gentle spice and yeast character that feels naturally integrated rather than sharp.

Slightly warmer than a lager — 8–12°C allows the banana and clove esters from the yeast to fully develop.

Recommended for this style

Tall and narrow at the base, flaring at the top — designed to hold the abundant foam of a wheat beer while showcasing its hazy golden body.

Best fresh. The yeast-driven banana and clove character fades over time. Drink within 4 months.
