The Crux

Tap to rate

The Crux is a double IPA named after the hardest section of a mountain route. It is fermented with a low-attenuating ale yeast, bittered with Loral, hopped in the kettle with Amarillo and dry hopped with Motueka from New Zealand. Burnished gold in the glass, it smells of mango, peach and apricot with a hint of desiccated coconut. The palate is ripe and sticky-sweet with mango juice and a light boozy sweetness, turned by a bitter twist of grapefruit and lime. The bitterness lingers, with a lime marmalade zest.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with vibrant stone fruit notes—ripe mango, peach, and apricot dominate the profile. A subtle thread of desiccated coconut threads through the aromatic complexity, adding a gentle tropical roundness without dominating. Loral bittering brings a refined herbal backbone to the bouquet.

◐ Taste

The palate enters rich and sticky-sweet with mango juice forward, built on a low-attenuating malt base that lends ripe fullness. Mid-palate brings a light boozy warmth that complements the fruit sweetness, then pivots sharply into a bitter twist of grapefruit and lime. The bitterness persists cleanly, finishing with lime marmalade zest and a dry citric edge.

IPAs are hop-forward ales with 5.5–7.5% ABV and IBU 40–70+. Bold hop aroma — citrus, tropical, resinous — with firm bitterness and a dry, clean finish.

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same bitter, fruity, tropical character as The Crux will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
