◎ Appearance

Deep mahogany to near-black pour with a dense, tight crumb that clings to the glass in fine lacework. The body is opaque and viscous, moving slowly against the light. A modest cream-colored head subsides to a thin collar, leaving persistent rings of foam down the sides.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with dark chocolate and cocoa powder, layered beneath notes of ripe plum and dried cherry. A restrained coffee earthiness emerges in the mid-palate, supported by clean lager fermentation character—no yeast esters or volatility, only a cool, composed intensity. Hop presence is subtle and recessive, allowing the malt complexity to dominate.

The palate unfolds with substantial malt sweetness—caramel and chocolate combine on entry, followed by a fuller, deeper roasted note in the mid-palate. Bitterness arrives measured at 30 IBU, providing balance without sharpness, while the 8% alcohol sits warmly underneath without burning. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, full-bodied but never cloying, with a lager-crisp finish that prevents heaviness.

The finish is lingering and dry, with residual cocoa and coffee notes persisting on the palate for several minutes. A gentle warming sensation accompanies the fade, characteristic of the style's higher alcohol content and cold conditioning.

Serve at 10–13°C. Too cold mutes the roasted complexity that makes a good porter worth drinking slowly.
