🌍 Belgium · Fruited Sour · One of 37 Fruited Sours in hopIQ

Grapevine is De Ranke's grape lambic, a blend of spontaneously fermented lambic and the brewery's own aged beer, matured in barrels with macerated fruit from the vineyard. Each edition uses a different variety or harvest, so every release turns out a little different, and the aim is to explore the border between beer and wine. The current edition uses Souvignier Gris grapes from the Hageland, harvested in 2023. It pours golden. White grape, green apple, citrus and a light funk rise from the glass. The palate is vinous and tart, with crisp acidity, a gentle bitterness and a bone-dry finish.

Floral and herbal notes emerge on deeper inspection, creating a layered, wine-like bouquet.

◐ Taste

The palate opens crisp and vinous, with pronounced acidity that frames a bone-dry body and minimal residual sweetness. A gentle bitterness from noble hops and fermentation compounds emerges in the mid-palate, balancing the tartness without dominating. The texture is delicate and effervescent, allowing the grape character and slight funkiness to develop without weight or cloying finish.

◑ Finish

The finish is distinctly dry and leaves behind a subtle grape-tannin grip and lingering green-apple notes. The aftertaste remains clean and refreshing, with only a whisper of funk persisting as the wine-like character fades gracefully.
