🌍 Belgium · Oud Bruin · One of 6 Oud Bruins in hopIQ

Kriek Audenaerde is a variation on Kriek De Ranke that uses the brewery's oud bruin Wijnberg as its base instead. It revives a local habit: almost every brewery around Oudenaarde that made oud bruin once had a cherry version, and whole cherries were steeped in old brown beer there throughout the first half of the twentieth century. It pours deep crimson with a pinkish head. Dark morello, fruit kernel, cranberry and damp oak rise from the glass. The palate is tart and juicy, with a subtle almond note, mouthwatering acidity and a dry finish.

◐ Taste

The palate opens with bright acidity and juicy cherry fruit that coats the mouth immediately, establishing a mouthwatering character from the first sip. Mid-palate reveals subtle almond and kernel notes integrated with the base oud bruin's gentle complexity, while restrained bitterness (10 IBU) allows fruit and acid to lead. The moderate body supports these elements without heaviness, creating a balanced, food-friendly profile.
