Vocation Brewery was founded in 2015 by John Hickling, who had previously set up and sold another brewery in the Midlands. He started alone in a converted chicken shed at Cragg Vale, around 1,000 feet up on the moors above Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire, where the independent company still operates. Known for bold, hop-forward beers led by the flagship IPA Life & Death, it now brews more than ten million pints a year, sells to some 40 countries and runs its own Vocation & Co. bars in Hebden Bridge, Halifax, Sheffield and Manchester.
