Sudden Death Brewing is an independent craft brewery and brewpub founded in January 2022 by Oliver Schmökel and Jan Eric Nagel, two ice-hockey fans from the Timmendorfer Strand area on the Baltic coast. The brewery is housed in Hall 48 of the Gollan shipyard district (Werftquartier) in Lübeck, a venue that opened in April 2022. The founders drew inspiration for the name — a reference to sudden-death overtime in ice hockey — from American craft beers they discovered during trips to follow the Boston Bruins.
