Cervezas Althaia was founded in Altea on the Costa Blanca in August 2014 by homebrewer Jorge Sánchez and oenologist Mayte Pardo, starting in a small brewhouse in the town centre. After an equity crowdfunding round in 2019/20, the brewery moved in 2021 to a new production site with a taproom on the edge of town. Althaia is said to be the ancient name of Altea, from a Greek word meaning 'I heal'. All production stays local; labels by illustrator Martutxa Casares show figures from the sea and local landmarks.
