🌍 Spain · Hazy IPA · One of 115 Hazy IPAs in hopIQ

Costa Este goes back to a day in Altea in May 2017 with Javier Zornoza of Brew & Roll from Pamplona, when the two set out to make a New England IPA. Today it is one of the most requested beers on tap in the brewery's taproom. A high share of oats and wheat makes it pale yellow and very hazy under a fluffy white head. The nose is a burst of mango, pineapple and passion fruit with sweet, juice-like citrus. The palate is silky and almost creamy, with very low bitterness and a juicy finish.

◎ Appearance

Costa Este presents a pale yellow hue with pronounced haziness throughout, characteristic of its high oat and wheat content. A fluffy white head forms generously and clings to the glass with good retention, creating fine lacing as the beer is consumed. The suspension of yeast and grain proteins creates an inviting, opaque appearance that signals the style's defining aesthetic.

Style guide · what to expect · how to find alternatives

What is a Hazy IPA?

IPAs are hop-forward ales with 5.5–7.5% ABV and IBU 40–70+. Bold hop aroma — citrus, tropical, resinous — with firm bitterness and a dry, clean finish.

Finding a similar Hazy IPA

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same hazy, tropical, wheat character as Costa Este will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
