Beran 11

Tap to rate

Beran, a true eleven-degree lager, was launched in June 2015 and brewed specially for the Zlín and Valašsko regions. It comes from the castle brewery in Břeclav, where every beer is made the old Czech way: decoction on two mashes and Czech ingredients only. The beers ferment for ten days in open vessels and then lager for weeks, with water from the Kančí obora.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with soft, grainy maltiness anchored by hints of bread and a subtle noble-hop signature that leans toward floral restraint rather than assertive aromatics. Water from the Kančí obora imparts a clean, mineral undertone that prevents any heaviness. The overall impression is one of understated elegance, with yeast remaining politely in the background.

◐ Taste

The palate enters with a malty foundation that sits comfortably in the mid-range, revealing a light bready character without cloying sweetness. The mid-palate maintains smooth, crisp drinking while noble hops introduce a measured bitterness—never sharp, always integrated. The balance tilts gently toward malt throughout, supported by the beer's modest 22 IBU and the clean fermentation from open vessels.

◑ Finish

The finish is clean and relatively brief, leaving a pleasant dry sensation without astringency or lingering harshness. A faint grain sweetness fades gracefully, inviting the next sip rather than dominating the palate.
