Meteor 11

Tap to rate

Meteor is the hop-forward eleven from the castle brewery in Břeclav, a lager with a pronounced, spicy bitterness. It is unfiltered and made with Pilsner-type malt; the Czech hops Sládek and Žatecký poloraný červeňák go in generously towards the end of the hop boil. Jupiter, the stronger version of Meteor, sits next to it in the range. Like all beers brewed in Břeclav, it ferments in open vessels.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with spicy, herbal Czech hop character—earthy and slightly peppery notes from Sládek and Žatecký poloraný červeňák dominate. Supporting this is a clean, bready Pilsner malt foundation with faint grainy sweetness. Fermentation via open vessels imparts a crisp, mineral quality without any yeast-derived fruitiness.

◐ Taste

Entry is bright and dry, with the pronounced spicy-bitter hop profile claiming the palate immediately. Mid-palate shows restrained malty sweetness and a bread-like grain foundation that anchors the brisk bitterness without heaviness. The 25 IBU manifests as a sustained, clean bite rather than aggressive punch, allowing herbal complexity to unfold.

◑ Finish

The finish is medium-dry with lingering herbal and spicy hop notes that fade gradually into a clean, mineral aftertaste. No cloying sweetness remains; instead, a pleasant astringency from the late-kettle Czech hops persists.
