🌍 Australia · New England IPA · One of 81 New England IPAs in hopIQ

A New England IPA brewed with pale malt, oats, wheat and Munich malt and heavily hopped with Cascade, Centennial, Mosaic and Amarillo. Mango, passionfruit, guava, pineapple and citrus fill the aroma, with a hint of lychee and grapefruit. Oats and wheat give a soft, creamy body, bitterness stays low, and a light sweetness keeps the juicy profile round. It succeeds Nectar of the Hops, one of the first beers of the style brewed in Australia, and has carried its current name since 2023.

Aroma

The nose is dominated by stone fruit and tropical notes: ripe mango, passionfruit, and guava lead, followed by bright pineapple and citrus. A subtle floral hint of lychee and a whisper of grapefruit provide complexity without overshadowing the fruit-forward character. The hop profile remains aromatic rather than aggressively bitter.

Entry is soft and creamy, with oats and wheat creating a velvety mouthfeel that immediately distinguishes this from hop-forward cousins. The mid-palate reveals layered tropical and citrus flavors, while bitterness remains restrained at 18 IBU, allowing a light residual sweetness to round the profile. About New England IPA

Style guide · what to expect · how to find alternatives

What is a New England IPA?

IPAs are hop-forward ales with 5.5–7.5% ABV and IBU 40–70+. Bold hop aroma — citrus, tropical, resinous — with firm bitterness and a dry, clean finish.

Finding a similar New England IPA

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same tropical, citrusy, creamy character as Nectar will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
