Dolia Twee

Tap to rate

The second barrel version of the brewery's 21 °P barley wine, a beer with a full malt body and mild bitterness. Twee matured for a year and a half in an oak whisky barrel, which gave it intense peaty and woody notes; they combine with plum and clove, and the oak adds a sweetish heaviness. At 10.4 % it is the lightest of the three.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with prominent peaty and woody notes from the whisky barrel, layered beneath with ripe stone fruit—plum especially—and delicate spice notes of clove. Behind these sits a soft, warming alcohol presence and a subtle sweetness that hints at caramel and oak tannin. The overall impression is one of sophisticated integration between the spirit influence and the beer's malt foundation.

◐ Taste

The palate enters with a full, voluminous malt body that carries notes of dark bread crust and subtle dried fruit. Mid-palate reveals the oak's sweet heaviness—a varnish-like character—alongside continued plum stone and spice. Bitterness is restrained at 50 IBU, never assertive, allowing the whisky barrel's tannins and the beer's own sweetness to remain prominent. The finish holds some residual alcohol warmth without harshness.

◑ Finish

The aftertaste is long and warming, with lingering peaty oak and a subtle clove-tinged spice that fades gradually over several minutes. A mild drying sensation from oak tannin persists, balancing the residual sweetness.
