Playground

Netherlands·Alcohol-Free IPA
Tap to rate

Peach and fresh citrus fruit lead, with a round, bitter mouthfeel and a substantial body. Playground began in 2016 as a one-off special in a series of beers built around the playground the brothers were about to open: their own brewery. A special yeast that barely turns sugar into alcohol, body-giving malts and American hops (Columbus, Mosaic, Citra, Cascade) shape it; it is brewed like any other beer and gets plenty of time in the tank to develop flavour.

AI-generated sensory profile for Playground

◎ Appearance

Playground displays a pale golden hue with excellent clarity and a fine, persistent head that clings to the glass with good retention. The carbonation is crisp and evident, rising in tight streams through the body. Lacing remains defined as the head subsides.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with pronounced stone fruit character, particularly ripe peach, layered with bright citrus notes that suggest grapefruit and tangerine. American hop varieties contribute a floral undertone without aggressive resinousness, while the substantial malt base provides a subtle sweetness beneath the fruit.

◐ Taste

Entry is clean and full-bodied for an alcohol-free IPA, with peach and citrus flavors immediately apparent. The mid-palate sustains bitterness—a measured 60 IBU—that balances the fruit without harshness, while the malt structure gives roundness and substance. The finish remains dry with lingering citrus zest.

◑ Finish

The aftertaste extends with a pleasant citrus and subtle bitter note, gradually fading without astringency. The malt and hops leave a clean, refreshing impression.

IPAs are hop-forward ales with 5.5–7.5% ABV and IBU 40–70+. Bold hop aroma — citrus, tropical, resinous — with firm bitterness and a dry, clean finish.

Finding a similar Alcohol-Free IPA

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same peach, citrusy, bitter character as Playground will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
