Bunker Porter

◎ Appearance

Deep brown color with excellent opacity, pouring beneath a substantial dark tan head that settles into a persistent collar. The head displays fine Schaumkleiden along the glass walls, indicating good carbonation and body. The body remains opaque throughout, with no haze or cloudiness.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with pronounced chocolate and roasted grain character, grounded by the English and New Zealand specialty Malz. Behind the roast emerges a subtle dark-fruit ester from the London ale yeast—plum and raisin notes that add complexity without overwhelming. The overall impression is warm and malty, with no aggressive hop bite on the nose.

◐ Taste

The palate enters full-bodied and smooth, with chocolate and coffee dominating the mid-palate. A gentle roasted grain backbone supports these flavors without turning harsh. The bitterness emerges softly in the mid-palate, restrained and well-integrated, never sharp or domineering—allowing the malt sweetness and dark-fruit esters to remain the focus.

◑ Finish

The finish is notably dry, shedding residual sweetness cleanly without lingering cloying notes. A soft, unaggressive bitterness carries through to the aftertaste, fading gradually into a dry malt and cocoa powder impression.

Serve at 10–13°C. Too cold mutes the roasted complexity that makes a good porter worth drinking slowly.
