🌍 Germany · Weizenbock · One of 15 Weizenbocks in hopIQ

First brewed in 1907 under Mathilde Schneider, Aventinus is the brewery's wheat doppelbock: a dark ruby, bottle-conditioned wheat bock of equal parts wheat and barley malt, brewed from 18.5 °Plato, open-fermented and hopped with Hallertauer Herkules. Ripe banana, raisin and plum lead the nose, joined by clove, a touch of liquorice and roasted malt. The palate is full and warming, with caramel and dark bread under a soft sweetness, restrained bitterness and a smooth finish.

Aroma

The nose opens with prominent ripe banana and stone fruit—raisin and plum dominate the top notes. Warm spice emerges clearly: clove and a whisper of licorice meld with darker roasted malt undertones. The overall impression is complex and layered, neither aggressive nor overly fruity.

Taste

The palate is full-bodied and warming, with caramel sweetness and dark bread character moving through the middle. Restrained bitterness—around 16 IBU—sits quietly beneath the malt-driven structure, allowing the wheat and barley base to shine. The finish is smooth and moreish, with lingering warmth.

Finish

The aftertaste is long and gently warming, with a soft malt sweetness and subtle spice that fades gradually. No harshness or cloying character intrudes; the alcohol sits well in the background.
