🌍 Germany · Kristallweizen · One of 11 Kristallweizens in hopIQ

Brewed since 1990, Kristall is the filtered counterpart to the house's cloudy wheat beers: open-fermented, then filtered bright instead of bottle-conditioned, but not pasteurised. Straw-gold and clear in the glass, it is hopped with Cascade, Herkules and Tradition from the Hallertau. Banana and clove come through more softly than in the cloudy beers, with lemon, herbal notes and a coriander-like spice over light bread malt. High carbonation keeps it brisk and dry, ending clean with a gentle bitterness.

Tasting Notes

AI-generated sensory profile for Schneider Weisse TAP2 Kristall

Appearance

Straw-gold and brilliantly clear, this filtered Kristallweizen presents fine, persistent carbonation that creates a steady stream of bubbles rising through the glass. The head forms quickly and holds with moderate retention, leaving delicate lacing on the sides of the glass. The clarity is the defining mark of this style—bright and luminous without the haze of its cloudy cousins.

Aroma

The nose leads with soft banana and clove notes characteristic of wheat beer fermentation, but here restrained and refined by the filtration process. Behind these sits a herbal, gently spiced character reminiscent of coriander, along with bright citrus hints and a whisper of fresh bread malt. The Hallertau Edelhopfen contribute subtle floral and herbaceous undertones that frame without overwhelming.

Taste

The palate opens clean and crisp, with wheat malt providing a light, bready foundation that is never heavy. Banana and clove emerge in the mid-palate with restraint, complemented by a coriander-like spice and dry citrus notes that keep the beer feeling fresh and brisk. High carbonation amplifies the dryness, while gentle bitterness builds toward the finish without aggression.
