Tap to rate

Fresh in taste and aftertaste, with nice almond flavours that recall an old-fashioned cherry pie. This sparkling cherry lambic starts as Kriekenlambiek Oud Beersel, with 400 g of cherries per litre fermenting in lambic for six months, and then goes through the méthode traditionnelle: sparkling-wine yeast, riddling, disgorging and no sweet dosage. Ruby red, 75 cl, in editions from 2012 to 2023.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with fresh cherry fruit layered over subtle almond notes that evoke an old-fashioned cherry pie filling. Beneath the stone fruit lies a gentle funky character typical of lambic fermentation—hints of leather and forest floor—alongside a delicate tartness. The aromatic profile is complex yet restrained, neither overwhelming nor muted.

◐ Taste

The palate is bright and structured around a core of tart cherry fruit with pronounced almond and nutty complexity. Sour notes emerge cleanly on entry and mid-palate, cutting through the natural sweetness of the fruit with precision; the dry character and crisp acidity create a wine-like mouthfeel. Bitterness is minimal, allowing the fruit and fermentation character to lead.
