The Same Story

Tap to rate

Dank with a light bitterness, this 8.5% hazy double IPA is brewed with Nelson, Citra, Citra Liquid Lupulin, Riwaka, Galaxy and Simcoe. It comes from Fidens in Albany, which opened in late 2019 in Colonie, where fans camped out overnight for fresh cans. Co-founder Steve began brewing hop-forward beer in his garage after tasting Vermont offerings around 2014.

Tasting Notes

AI-generated sensory profile for The Same Story

◎ Appearance

A pale golden-yellow body sits beneath a dense, pillowy white head that clings to the glass with notable persistence. The beer reads distinctly hazy and opaque, with suspended yeast and hop particles creating a soft, clouded appearance throughout. Fine carbonation rises steadily, contributing to the visual liveliness of the pour.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with bold dank and resinous hop character, anchored by Nelson Sauvin's herbal-earthy edge and reinforced by Citra's citrus sweetness. Beneath sit piney and slightly gasoline-like notes from Simcoe, with Galaxy contributing stone-fruit and berrylike undertones. A soft, clean malt base supports without dominating, allowing the hop aromatics to remain the focal point.

◐ Taste

Entry is full and creamy, with a wave of tropical fruit notes—mango and passionfruit—giving way to a bracing piney and resinous mid-palate. Citra's bright citrus oils coat the tongue while a clean, measured bitterness emerges around 50 IBU, present but restrained rather than aggressive. The 8.5% ABV sits well beneath the surface, delivering body without heat or alcoholic bite.

◑ Finish

The finish is medium-length and drying, with lingering pine resin and a gentle citrus fade that refreshes rather than persists. A light astringency from the hops provides clean closure without harshness.
