DouGall's Doble IPA

Tap to rate

An orange beer with high bitterness and strong alcohol, brewed to be fruity, aromatic and balanced all the same. The malts are Maris Otter, Extra Pale and a touch of oats, and the hops combine Simcoe, Mosaic, Citra, Loral, Amarillo and Columbus. The yeast was first grown in a batch of 942 so that the next generation was ready to ferment this beer.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with bright citrus notes—lemon zest and bitter orange peel—layered over a complex hop profile that reveals floral and herbal undertones from Loral and Simcoe. ◐ Taste

The palate opens with assertive bitterness—100 IBU delivered with structure rather than harshness—balanced by a wave of tropical and stone-fruit character from Mosaic and Citra. The mid-palate reveals layers of resinous pine and orange marmalade, while the 8% ABV manifests as a warming, slightly boozy undertone that amplifies the beer's intensity without overwhelming its fruit-forward character.

◑ Finish

The finish is medium-long, with the bitterness lingering pleasantly on the palate and morphing into a dry, slightly astringent aftertaste. A faint echo of citrus zest and the beer's fruity character persists, leaving the mouth refreshed yet engaged.
