🌍 Australia · IPA · One of 93 IPAs in hopIQ

FIGJAM first appeared in 2012 and has returned as a limited release in a reworked recipe, slightly stronger and less bitter than the original. It is brewed from malted barley, wheat and natural hops, with the hops added in a series of timed stages to build layered flavour over a firm bitterness. The beer pours deep gold with an amber tint. Floral hops, mango and stone fruit lead the nose, and the palate sets caramel malt against a resinous, earthy bitterness, with pawpaw, citrus pith and a zesty mandarin note in the finish.

Appearance

FIGJAM presents a deep gold body with amber undertones, characteristic of its balanced malt bill and moderate colour development. The pour yields a persistent, creamy head that demonstrates solid schaumhaftung, while the beer maintains excellent clarity throughout service. Carbonation is evident and well-integrated, supporting the visual presentation without excessive effervescence.

Aroma

The nose opens with pronounced floral Edelhopfen character layered against stone fruit and tropical mango notes. Beneath the hop-forward aromatics lies a refined caramel Malz foundation that adds sweetness without dominating. Citrus pith and mandarin undertones emerge as the beer warms, creating a complex and evolving bouquet.

Taste

The palate opens with caramel Malz sweetness that grounds the beer before a wave of resinous, earthy bitterness takes hold. Mid-palate reveals pawpaw and citrus fruit character, creating tension against the firm 60 IBU bitterness. The construction balances hop-driven resinosity with restrained malt sweetness, creating a layered drinking experience that rewards the timed hop additions.

Serve & Enjoy

How to get the most out of FIGJAM

Serve at 8–11°C
Refrigerate, then rest 2 min

Serve well-chilled. Session IPAs are at their best cold — the lower ABV means less warmth to balance the hops.

Tulip glass
Recommended for this style

The curved shape concentrates hop aromas and supports a thick head. Essential for aromatic ales and IPAs where the nose is half the experience.

Drink fresh. Session IPAs are brewed to be consumed young — the hops are at their best now.

About IPA

Style guide · what to expect · how to find alternatives

What is a IPA?

IPAs are hop-forward ales with 5.5–7.5% ABV and IBU 40–70+. Bold hop aroma — citrus, tropical, resinous — with firm bitterness and a dry, clean finish.

Finding a similar IPA

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same resinous, fruity, earthy character as FIGJAM will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
