🌍 Belgium · Dubbel · One of 10 Dubbels in hopIQ

Ename Dubbel is one of the two beers that started the Ename range in 1990, created alongside an archaeological project at the site of the old Benedictine abbey near Oudenaarde. The dark ale is refermented in the bottle. Caramel and sweet fruit lead the nose, with roasted malt behind them. The body is full and rounded, with coffee and dark chocolate notes, a gentle spice and a bitter hop edge, and it finishes dry.

Tasting Notes

AI-generated sensory profile for Ename Dubbel

◎ Appearance

Deep ruby-brown with a warm mahogany hue, the beer presents excellent clarity despite its bottle conditioning. A dense, cream-colored head builds readily and clings to the glass with fine, persistent lacing that marks each sip.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with caramel sweetness and dark fruit esters, lending a gentle fruitiness characteristic of bottle fermentation. Behind these comes a firm roasted malt foundation that grounds the bouquet without becoming harsh or smoky.

◐ Taste

A full, rounded body delivers coffee and dark chocolate notes with a delicate spice note woven through the mid-palate. The Noble hop bitterness arrives as a refined edge rather than a sharp bite, balancing the malt sweetness and carrying into the swallow.

◑ Finish

The finish turns distinctly dry, shedding the initial sweetness and leaving a clean, malty backdrop with lingering chocolate and a whisper of hop character. The aftertaste remains composed and medium in length.
