Gerardus Dubbel

Tap to rate

A firm, layered dark monastery beer. Raisins and dried apricots come first on the nose, then chocolate and finally caramel. Monks sold dubbel to earn their living, and part of the turnover from this one goes to the upkeep of the Redemptorist monastery in Wittem. Served at 10 to 12°C. 7.0% ABV, brewed in Gulpen, Limburg.

◐ Taste

Entry is malty and full-bodied, with raisins and candied fruit flavors establishing themselves immediately. The mid-palate reveals layered sweetness balanced by subtle caramel and chocolate, while low bitterness (25 IBU) keeps the beer from becoming cloying. A gentle dryness on the finish prevents the sweetness from overwhelming.
