🌍 Belgium · Saison · One of 82 Saisons in hopIQ

Saison Dupont dates from 1920, when Louis Dupont took over the farm-brewery in Tourpes and revived its saison, a beer once brewed in winter and served to seasonal farm workers in summer. Today it is a blond, bottle-refermented ale and the brewery's leading export. Grapefruit and clove-like spice lead the nose, backed by pale orchard fruit and a phenolic edge from the house yeast. On the palate they meet bready malt, a clear, firm bitterness and a finish without any residual sweetness.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with prominent grapefruit citrus and clove-like phenolic spice from the house yeast, backed by pale orchard fruit notes that suggest green apple and pear. A subtle bready maltiness and a hint of hay round out the aromatic profile, creating a complex and inviting bouquet that is neither overtly fruity nor heavily spiced.

◐ Taste

The palate balances bready, pale malt character with a clear, firm bitterness that sits in the mid-range without overwhelming the delicate fruit and spice notes. The mouthfeel is crisp and moderately full-bodied, with the 6.5% ABV remaining unobtrusive and allowing the subtle interplay of yeast-derived flavours to emerge cleanly on the mid-palate.

◑ Finish

The finish is notably dry with no residual sweetness, as the bitterness and phenolic edge from the yeast persist cleanly into the aftertaste. The overall impression is of a beer that dries the palate and invites another sip, characteristic of a well-crafted Saison.

What is a Saison?

Saisons are Belgian farmhouse ales with 5–8% ABV and IBU 20–35. Spicy, fruity yeast — pepper, citrus, hay — with high carbonation and a dry refreshing finish.
